Definiteness of Purpose

Definiteness of Purpose

In his iconic book, Think and Grow Rich Napoleon Hill emphasizes how important it is to have definiteness of purpose in order to achieve one’s goals. If you do not OWN this book and read it regularly, you need to adjust your thoughts.

The first major thing Napoleon Hill says you need is a Major Purpose in Life. I suppose that can be a cross breed of your WHY and your GOAL. Or depending on who we are talking about simply your WHY.

The language Mr. Hill uses in his book is understandably archaic. The book was published in the beginning of the 20th century. So every time I read it two things have happened. The first is I have grown and changed so what I read I see with a different understanding. The other thing is my vocabulary and understanding has improved.

Definiteness of Purpose means something to me that may be different from what you think it might mean. I have defined and continue to define my Major Purpose in Life. That is my why and my goals to achieve my why. Definiteness of purpose to me means that every day I am working to achieve my Major Purpose in Life. It also means that I am thinking of it pretty much “all the time”.

If I am wasting time watching Netflix when I ought to be working, my self control is taking over more and more often to get me on track. Because I am teaching and running The Right Choice as well as working my ACN Business I need to have strict control over my focus. My focus needs to be on the tasks I have set a priority to. Not every task is generating direct progress to my Major Purpose BUT it is clearing the way for my consciousness to work toward there.

The word Definiteness means a lot to me too. I am most definite in my goals. Therefore I look at everything I do as a step that will either take me to my goal or help clear the way to make the achievement easier. I truly believe the achievement of my goals is within the realm of possibility for me and that all I need to do is remain focused and set to work.

I go to sleep thinking about what I am grateful for and work on programming my sub-conscious mind to work day and night toward my goal. I believe in the law of attraction and see how that is starting to become more and more evident to me through the happenstances of everyday life. I must remain steadfast in my Definiteness of Purpose.

When you train your subconscious mind in your Definiteness of Purpose you start to change your paradigms. Your paradigms are what you use in your subconscious mind to make decisions. Basically they are habits. Have you noticed that often you hear someone start to say something and you have already formed an opinion without hearing their whole statement? You are answering out of habit.

When you train your subconscious mind to your Definiteness of Purpose you will move your paradigms there as well. Eventually you will find your reaction to things around you being more positively aligned with your Major Purpose in Life.

Some people liken this to the Law of Attraction. I believe in what is happening to my life – I don’t care what label is applied.

Will you try this?
